Former Germany international Piotr Trochowski scored the winner for the Swabians with a beautiful free-kick, but the distinction of man of the match went to goalkeeper Marvin Hitz.

With Schmelzer back in the fold at left-back providing width deep into the opposing half, Mkhitaryan is expected to return to his regular spot on the left side of the attacking midfield, from where he likes to make runs into the box. Augsburg could have major problems defending the Armenian, especially if they have to replace Verhaegh. Even if the Dutch skipper plays, he'd likely be at less than 100 percent, which would make it tough for him to cover Mkhitaryan's runs. Weinzierl could ask defensive-minded midfielder Dominik Kohr to help out on the left side of defence, but that could expose the middle of the park to Shinji Kagawa and Ilkay Gundogan. Dortmund could have a field day with Augsburg caught in this conundrum.
