[[[live sport===]]!] Newcastle - Villarreal live stream 6 August 2023

We asked what you made of the tour and who has impressed you the most. Here are some of your thoughts:Leonard: I'm impressed by the youngsters, particularly Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley. I also think we’ve bought fantastic players in Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes. I'm betting Tonali will thrive at Newcastle. Dan: We need a proper left-back and a centre-back, in case of injury to Schar or Botman. Lascelles is a bench player at best and Dan Burn covers left and centre but struggles against top-tier opposition.

Al-Ahli are run by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), which also owns Newcastle.

Same back four all last season and we'll struggle with defensive depth in Champions League at present. John: I think we should go with what we’ve got now, and if so strengthen in January. Matt Targett hasn’t really had a chance yet to prove himself. With the young blood we have coming through we’re in a great position. This is all experimental for the new owners and we’re a lot further ahead than we thought we could ever be. Patience is the key. Simon: I'm not sure what to make of this pre-season tour.

I have high hopes for him. We've got a load of games this year so he's got a big part to play. "Newcastle have signed Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes this summer and have had a bid accepted for Southampton's Tino Livramento. With one week to go before the season starts, Howe said every player will be important. "We do not want a huge squad because we want everyone to feel they have a part to play, " he said. "We have a very good squad when everyone is fit but the problem is that we cannot guarantee that all season.

The 20-year-old started three times in the Premier League last year but did make 27 appearances in total and has impressed in pre-season. "He's done very well, " said Howe. "He's come back very fit and looks very motivated. "He's scored goals and I see a lot of aspects of his game improving.

He's an unbelievable footballer, a lovely lad as well, really good mentality. I think they'll love watching him play in the black and white shirt. "The same for Harvey. He's an outstanding goalscorer. He's scored goals in the Premier League now for the last four years and he's been a high-class performer for a very strong Leicester team. "So I think they are great additions. They are both great people and we look forward to their first experience at St. James' Park. "Two draws and a victory featured in Newcastle United's Premier League Summer Series. Eddie Howe says the squad is returning to Newcastle "more united" after a positive trip to the US.

"I see a player with huge ability and I always think there is more to come from him so that is brilliant from my perspective. "He’ll be going home kicking himself that he hasn’t scored two goals today. "Image source, Getty ImagesNicola Pearson, BBC SportNewcastle look set to sign Southampton full-back Tino Livramento for a fee in the region of £40m, but with Kieran Trippier proving integral since his arrival in January 2022, can the 20-year-old push for that starting right-back spot? The former Chelsea academy player joined the Saints for £5m in the summer of 2021 and became their first choice right-back in his breakthrough campaign. An anterior cruciate ligament injury curtailed his season in April 2022 and he was sidelined for a over a year before returning to first team action in May 2023. Despite the injury struggles of last season, the England under-21 international won a lot plaudits for his performances in the 2021-22 season - the reason Southampton have valued him so highly.

"We are in various competitions and have to be robust enough to deal with that challenge. Let's see what happens [regarding further new signings]. It would be a maximum of a couple of players. "Image source, ReutersEddie Howe says he "misses" Allan Saint-Maximin after the former Newcastle forward completed his move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli. The 26-year-old was the Magpies' talisman for two seasons before Howe's arrival but found himself on the fringes as Newcastle stormed up the table last year.
